These are things I would use it for:

School work (I’m currently a senior in high school, so that means I’ll be going to college pretty soon)
Web browsing
Store/download/play music (Limewire + iTunes)
Store my photos
LIGHT graphics editing
LIGHT gaming (Maplestory)

I went on the HP website and customized and ideal computer; this is what I put together–

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit

Processor: Intel(R) Atom(TM) Processor N280 (1.66GHz, 512KB L2, 667Mhz FSB)

Memory: 3GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm)

Hard Drive: 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

Graphics Card: NVIDIA ION with a 5-in-1 Digital Media slot (For the N280 processor)

I know netbooks are meant to be secondary computers, but do you or do you not think those features can handle the things I would use it for?

It adds up to about 0 bucks. I can’t tell if it’s be worth it or not, I really don’t know much about computers.

Maybe you could tell me if I’m better off getting a notebook instead. Maybe you can recommend some around the same price with the same specs?

I’ve installed a new harddrive and loaded Windows XP, but it would be nice to retrieve my music and MS Word files from the old harddrive.

The symptoms are strange. My computer began refusing to boot up, so I put my operating installation CD in and tried to do a repair.

When the new operating system copy reaches approximately 2/3 of the way through the process, it displays a message window saying that the Intel Mobile Chipset drivers are not registered with Microsoft and do I want to continue the process. I’ve tried both "yes" and "no" on separate attempts, but I wind up with a blue screen that says to disable any caches in the system bios and to try it again.

That doesn’t work. The same thing happens all over again.

What is the problem here? Is there some way now that I’ve purchased a new harddrive and have everything operating for me to gain access to my old files?

Any useful advice would be very appreciated.
Vicboy, the AGE of the computer has NOTHING to do with it. The laptop in question was purchased new last June.

The text and icons have gone really small. I have googled this and all it comes up with is to change the text size on "view" or to press control and adjust text size that way. But this doesn’t affect the desktop text or the taskbar text which has all changed as well.
Last time this happened I did a system restore and it went back to normal but this time that hasn’t worked. Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do to rectify it?
thanks!
Hi,
thanks for the answers but I’ve tried all the suggestions so far with no joy! When I try to change the resolution it just makes everything blurry, the resolution is perfect just very tiny!! It’s as if it thinks its a 12" monitor if you know what I mean. I’ve done the following:
1. Updated all the drivers from intel
2. Changed DPI (and then back!)
3. Changed resolution (then put it back!)
4. Uninstalled latest updates that could have caused a problem
5.Gone back as far as the computer will let me on a system restore with no effect
6. Spent hours and hours googling all the combination of words I can think of to try and find an answer!

Hello!
Since the 1st use of the laptop (July2007), sometimes, once a week nearly, when working normally,(no games) even with windows explorer!, suddenly the screen became unstable, strongly vibrating and uncontrollable I can just see the last screen vibrating strongly (horizontally) where no thing is clear
The only way I found to put off the computer was by pushing the power button (the Start button could not be localised)
Later, sometimes the screen goes totally off ! (may be only when working with battery)
Computer: Amilo Pro V3205
Processor:Intel core 2 Duo
Clock:2.0Ghz, T7200
RAM: 1GB
Graphic: Intel Mobile 945GM Express Chipset Family
Screen 12"
OS: Win xp SP2, (VISTA Pro too!)
To try solving the problem I did the following updates –with no results:
1) Bios version :to the version 1.2 (from Fujitsu-Siemens site)
2) Graphic drivers:to the latest version -from Intel site
3) Changing "Hardware acceleration" to some values
Any help, please.
Thanks

I have no idea how to compare desktop specs to laptop specs, so I decided to ask here. The laptop is priced at about 00 while the desktop is price at about 00. With the current deals available at dell they currently both cost the same price.

The only game I really play is world of warcraft, and my decision is based partially on the in game performance of both machines. Basically I would like to know which one is better? By how much? Why?
