I am dying to buy a laptop with high specs nowadays, but my friend told me I should wait few months, because his mate that works for some IT company said they (company) postponed buying Dell Latitudes E6400, because they will wait few months for native mobile quad core CPU laptops…I can’t find anything on the Internet…I wanted to buy some freakishly fast and strong notebook….Maybe Asus (15.4")-little bit for occasional gaming, they have good graphic cards. although it is true battery life isn’t that great and are a bit heavier…ORRRRR, Dell Latitude E6400 (14.1") very light (1.97 kg), Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz (energy efficient, ie.baterry power saving), with a) dedicated NVIDIA® Quadro® NVS 160M 256MB DDR3 Graphic Card, or b)integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 (still, it can use up to 1400 or 1800 MB graphic memory, depending on how much RAM notebook has installed and whether you have 32 or 64 bit OS!)…I was also considering Lenovo laptops, especially Thinkpad T400. with switchable graphics and lovely battery life (9:41 hour, or 7:41 with dedicated graphic card mode on!)…Oh, yes…I am a student so all the above fine examples of portable IT industry product address certain area of my interests-it has to be fast, can be heavy, but then it has to be undestructible and sturdy, needs to have 3.5 hours battery life minimum, good graphic is welcome, although I am not a gamer at all but still, just so that I can be proud of a laptop (naughty, ha?).
These days after all the sales started I am looking all the time at the above mentioned Latitude which I can get for 800 £/1200$ US, and my finger is on the mouse ready to click "Proceed to the checkout", but then I know there will be this Lenovo T400 much cheaper around 2009 Christmas…And maybe at the beginning of 2010 there will be some reasonably priced native quad core laptops…Money is not an issue for me, because I work hard during hollidays. but I am careful with the money, and I have friends who are smartasses sometimes, and they could come after 5 or 6 months saying "Ha, ha, ha, your stupid, you should have waited and would have saved 300 £/450$ US…SO, if you bothered to read all this, I bow to you from the other side of the screen and humbly ask for you opinion…
P.S. I have desktop Acer Aspire T180 from 2007. AMD Sempron 3600+, 2 GHZ, 160GB, Nvidia 6series 405 integrated graphics (I couldn’t believe I was able to play Call of Duty 4-my friend wanted to see if I could even load it!!!)
In September 2008 I bought Lenovo R61e, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.10 GHz, 3 Mb Level 2 cache, 160 GB 7200 rpm, Intel GMA X3100…Works lovely, but I only bought it to be a temporary (ie. expendable!) solution to my portable computer needs, until prices of Dell XPS 1530 came down…Even nowadays, it is still around 600 £/800$ US, and I bought it for 408 £/630$ US….
So techically, I am not in a hurry, but the thing is, I don’t want to miss a good laptop…Timing is everything…And with the economy coming down, prices could go further down as companies try to compensate for losses and sell stock even at lower prices to at least cover the invested sums of money….Anyway, take care and thank you!
