Pin Firewire

What is the difference between a 4 and a pin FireWire 6-pin? Is it suitable for use either to the capture of DV cam?
I can not get my firewire to work with Studio 8 (Pinnacle) software
If you know what the iLink connector looks like on an old PS2, which is a little small square connector in the front. That is a 4 – pin. My Canon ZR-200 camcorder has a 4-pin also. Most laptops have 4-pin also. 6 – pin is like on an iMac. In fact, to get a picture, go to my website www.freewebs.com / courtoreillejm. Then go to the "Miscellaneous" section.
