Computer Processor Help?
I recently bought a video game for computer called Age of Empires 3 and when i had finished installing it, i went to start a new game and this message came up:
‘Age of Empires III requires a 1400 MHz (1.4 Ghz) processor. This computer appears to have only a 800 MHz (0.8 GHz) processor installed. If you wish to upgrade your computer, please contact your computer manufacturer for any necessary assistance. This warning may appear on certain processors that dynamically reduce processor speed to save power (such as a notebook running on batteries). You may wish to consult your manufacturer for help on configuring your processor for maximum performance.
System information: 800 MHz, 960 MB, 64 MB (vendorID 1106, deviceID 3230)’
However, according to the system specification of my computer which i accessed through the control panel under ‘system and maintenance’, it gave the following conflicting info:
‘Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology MK-38 2.20 GHz’
I’ve got no idea why the game is saying i have a 0.8 Ghz processor when in actual fact i have a 2.20 GHz processor. I believe what the system spec. says because i run Windows Vista and it would be impossible with 0.8 GHz worth of processor.
Any ideas?
Thanks

On laptops (and desktops too, but mostly laptops) the clock speed of your CPU will lower when the computer is idle or used only lightly. This is to save battery life. With AMD processors this feature is called ‘Cool ‘n Quiet’.
The computer should automatically change the clock speed when you use the processor more (like when playing a game) but this doesn’t seem to be the case here.
To turn off ‘Cool ‘n Quiet’ you should reboot your computer and go in the bios settings. (you can do this by pressing the delete button (or on some systems the F2 button) repeatedly during start up.
Look for the ‘Cool ‘n Quiet’ setting in the bios menus and choose to disable it. when you’re finished save and exit the bios. (most commonly the F10 button is used for this option)
