The Samsung NC10 has joined the ranks of 10-inch netbooks, including the Eee PC 1000H, MSI Wind, and Lenovo IdeaPad S10, and it beats them all. The 9 NC10 may have the same cookie-cutter specs as its competitors, including a 1.6-GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, and Windows XP, but its spacious, well-positioned keyboard and more than 6 hours of battery life make this system our favorite 10-inch netbook yet.

Popular Netbook Computers
Netbook computers have quickly become the most sought after computers on the home user market. So far in 2009, if you were to check the top selling laptop computers on Amazon.com on any given day, there is a good chance the majority if not all of the top models would be netbooks. Consumers have made their love for these mini notebooks obvious.
In this article, we will discuss features and functionality typical of a netbook. We will also examine what it is about netbooks that has made them so sought after by consumers. You will learn what to from a netbook computer and why they appeal so strongly to buyers.
Netbook computers are essentially mini laptops. They are built to be easy to use and taken anywhere. The display and keyboard are smaller than those of a typical notebook computer. They are underpowered in terms of processor speed and memory and thus cannot run applications requiring a lot of resources. Netbooks will usually come with Linux or Windows XP installed.

The current starting price for a netbook is approximately $300 for a low end Linux based model. One can expect to pay up to $500 for a more feature rich netbook running Windows XP. To meet the rising demand for netbooks, almost all well known laptop makers have added one or more netbooks to their lineup of products.
With WiFi support standard on netbook computers, the lack of processing power can be somewhat mitigated. For example, netbook users can still keep in touch via email, use Web based applications such as Google Docs in place of desktop equivalents and still enjoy most of what the Internet has to offer. Netbooks are not intended to replace desktops, but for the more casual computer user they afford access to many useful features with less complexity.
The popularity of netbook computers stems from their portability and affordability. Computer users wanting an inexpensive laptop that traveled well and was capable of fulfilling their basic needs were a segment of the market that had traditionally been underserved. Netbooks resonate with the user who does not need the latest bells and whistles or the fastest processor and does not want to have to pay for such.
Once the technology matures, it is likely that we will see more feature rich netbooks weaving added functionality into less space. Netbooks have clearly gained mass appeal so we may see such advancements sooner rather than later. Until then, netbook computers will continue to serve non power users looking for convenience and ease of use.
With affordability a major concern and convenience another important factor for the majority of computer buyers, it is quite easy to understand the growing popularity of the netbook. At this time, netbook owners have to sacrifice a little power or perhaps get used to the limitations of netbooks, but clearly consumers are willing to make the tradeoff. As technology improves, we may soon see netbooks with more features hit the market in which case the line between netbook and traditional laptop computers will become blurred.
I am currently shopping for a netbook, which has me scanning blogs and web sites for advice on hardware and software features.

Aspire One Mini Laptop Review
Netbooks are getting smarter and larger, as laptops are getting smaller and dumber. They both are getting more ruggedized. See a trend here? They will become a blend of essentailly the same form factor eventually. The new netbooks being offered still need more software and computing power, and traditional laptops are too bloated with featurers. This is why some netbooks are too cheap and some laptops are too expensive.
Many people falsely assume that small laptops aren’t powerful laptops, or that small laptops could not possibly be as feature-rich as their larger competitors, but anyone who believes these false assumptions have not met the Acer Aspire One Mini Laptop. The Acer Aspire One is an 8.9 inch LCD, 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM White Laptop Computer that weighs a mere 2.78 lbs and offers amazing transportability.

Battery Life - This is one of the greatest elements of the Acer Aspire One. As far as battery life is concerned, you will be surprised when you see how long this battery can go for. I’ve taken my laptop out of the house expecting to lose power within an hour or so. After playing my favorite video game for four hours straight, I closed it down and found that I still had a surprising hour and fifteen minutes worth of battery life to take advantage of.
Look and Feel - My Acer Aspire One Mini Laptop attracts crowds beyond my imagination. Most people assume I am playing with a DVD player until I start playing games or my laptop starts throwing off chat sounds. If you are looking for a small, portable and visually attractive laptop computer, then the produces created by Acer are a good way to go. The Acer Aspire One is my favorite laptop by far, and it continues to blow my mind when I take it out and watch everyone get excited at it.
The key specifications are enough to give a clear indication of how awesome this small, portable laptop really is.

Mini Laptop Comparison
Posted by admin on January 24th, 2009
|
First it was the desktop PC versus laptops. Then it became laptop computers vs notebooks. Now it looks like the new little rugged netbooks are nudging their way into the matrketplace.
Desktop Vs Laptop
Though both are personal computers; desktop and laptops are designed for two different purposes. Desktop as the name suggests is placed over desks. It is not a portable device. It has to have a definite position. The desktop is larger in size and has three different components that combine together to make it complete i.e.: the Monitor, C.P.U, and keyboard. Without one of them the desktop PC is incomplete and useless.
Though in the superficial description of the two, laptops seem to be an all time better option, it is necessary to know they have their own disadvantages too. Desktops since is complete only with its three components together, implies that they are different. Therefore you can choose each of them separately. Generally the pre determined/ branded desktops do not give the best of each of its components. However here you can choose the best configuration for your desktop yourself and combine them to give you a magnificent end product. In the same way, if there arises any problem with a particular part of the computer, it can be replaced or changed individually. Desktops are better at performance and boast higher capacity than laptops.

Laptops do not offer such wide configuration options to choose from. In newer models, the options for customizing your configuration would be narrower. Though in laptops there are a thousand models to choose from, choice in desktops would always surpass laptop options. In terms of performance and its hardware capacity, you cannot avail a 10,000 rpm hard disk or a 21 inch monitor like you can in desktops.
Desktops have higher expansion options than laptops. The expansion slots in them allow you to add new hardware to the device. Technology in its effort to bring laptops in par with desktops has included PC card slots. However they still lag behind. Most desktop PCs have multiple upgrade options available to them; memory, hard disk and processor upgrades can be easily done at low cost. In contrast, despite improvements, laptops have few upgrade options. When comparing the prices, desktop computers have always been cheaper than laptops for comparable performance and features.
Though laptops lag behind technologically, they let you take your PC with you. They let you do your work anywhere you carry it along. Be it office, home or while traveling. Even in terms of power consumption laptops are better than desktops. Laptops are best to serve the purpose it is designed for. No matter how advanced desktop computers are each has its own purpose and each serves it best. It is only the incredible urge for better that underestimates laptops.

We would suggest that the computers of reputed brands should be only bought from well known computer store. There you can get a warranty against any manufacturing and material defects, so that you can claim your due when required. Moreover the branded computer store can provide you the best deal in a computer purchase.

The EeePC - First Thoughts
Posted by admin on January 18th, 2009
|
My opinion on the EeePC by Asus. The machine, that I believe, will become the number 1 seller of the year.
I love gadgets. I am addicted to them and if I see something I like then I feel a massive urge to immediately go and buy it.
Looking in a recent PC magazine I came across the EeePC by Asus - looking at the pictures I saw something that I had longed for, for some time. A small portable PC, a cheap price tag, seemingly specifically geared up for Internet on the move.
The EeePC is pronounced e-pc - it is meant to stand for three easy points - easy to learn, easy to work and easy to play. I think the original idea was to make something affordable to the many including students and families.
What attracted me to the device was it’s apparent portability. Measuring 225 x 165 x 21 mm this is tiny in comparison to any other laptop. It has a solid state hard drive so pretty rugged in the fact you can knock it and bang it about without damage occurring. With three hours of battery life and a mobile phone sized charger makes it all pretty portable.
Of course as with any relatively new gadget the demand is great and getting hold of one was pretty tough. They come in different colours. My preference was the black one and I guess this was the same for most people as it was completely out of stock. In the end I settled for the blue.
After pressing the power button the wait is minimal. I would say about 20 - 30 seconds. It’s strange as the machine is silent when booting. You kind of expect to hear the hard disks spin and the fan going. Peering into the 7 inch screen is surprisingly easy although I guess it could get annoying depending on what you are trying to achieve. However, so far, for just MSN, email and web browsing it is absolutely fine.
More surprisingly is the keyboard. It is obviously relatively small but it is quite easy to type on. I think after a small amount of adjusting typing should be relatively easy. Ok you would not want to type a full novel on it but for emails, blogging short articles etc - absolutely fine.
Even though it is hard to think of this little gadget like this, this machine is a fully functional PC. This means you can pretty much do anything on it that you could a normal PC. It comes with a Linux based system on it. This is open source and subsequently, with a couple of minor modification, there are literally thousands of free applications that can be run on it. The main screen is easy to navigate round giving you obvious icons such as ‘Internet’ or ‘email’ or ‘messenger’ so you really do not have to be a techie to work your way around. Having said that, if you wanted to, the machine is powerful enough to run XP on it should you require.
With wi-fi built in, connecting to the Internet is easy. A webcam, microphone and speakers allow for easy communication. You also have USB ports as well as a flash memory slot allowing for an addition 32gb of storage on top of the 4gb included within the machine. For me, this means I can take this machine and take it anywhere and where there is not a wireless network to connect to, I can connect via 3G from my data card. This means that I can be in the Internet anywhere without taking, what I now consider, a bulky item such as a laptop. This will even fit in the glove box of your car or in a handbag!
Whilst opening the EeePC will void your warranty - this system is upgradable. There are countless modifications or upgrades that can be done to make your Eeepc unique and super quick. As the software is open source, it can be modified to do pretty much anything you require.
I think this machine is going to be a huge success and pave the way for truly mobile computing. I have just paid 250 ($500 approx) for the 4GB model. There was a 2GB model for 200 and I have heard rumours that Asus have managed to relocate the speakers allowing for a greater screen size on a soon to be released model.

Amazing Success of Netbooks

Why Netbooks Are Not Really "Netbooks"…

…and why you just might like a rugged netbook. Reading reviews, the quote below is from PC Rugged Review Blog regarding the pros and cons of "netbooks", why they are not truly netbooks, but ends with the possibility of "rugged-netbooks".
It’s and odd way to approach the small portable computer niche, and then in the same article go on to admit that you own a netbook (that is not a netbook) and continue to comment on how terrific netbooks are, and how useful "ruggednetbooks" might be at the right price point.
Here you go:
"If they are such a pain to use, why do I have a netbook? Because they have a lot going for themselves, too. My Acer One runs Windows XP speedily on 1.5GB of RAM, and the 160GB hard disk is both quick and large enough. With its 6-cell battery the little Acer can run as long as six hours on a charge, and sometimes more. I like its dual SD card slots. I occasionally miss an optical drive, but have my office network set up so I can access the DVD drive of a desktop. Most of all, I like the Acer’s small and handy size. Packing and transporting even a compact notebook is usually a pain, but the little Acer netbook fits absolutely anywhere. Even its power supply is tiny. In my office, I hook it up to a 20-inch LCD and a full-size keyboard and mouse. I get full 1600 x 1200 pixel resolution, which makes working on the little Acer feel like working on a "real" computer.
So, "netbooks" they are not. But there does seem to be a good-size niche for surprisingly competent little notebooks that go for less than US$400. Price is definitely an issue. I’d rather have a more rugged device with a touch screen. Fujitsu and Panasonic and others make them, but for several times the money. Why not a rugged netbook with a very small price? It might sell in large quantities" -ruggedpcreview.com 01/05/09
There now is already the G netbook, the Dell netbooks, HP netbooks, and others. Yes, there will most likely be "rugged" netbooks. It will only be a matter of the netbook price that will largely determine how many consumers are in the market to buy netbooks.
